Farm Fresh Friday

Another beautiful day in San Diego! Although the May showers have started up again, I am certain the June flowers (and gardens) will be delightful!

Last week I promised to show you how to get that garden started. Today I have the photos from the planting process...
We made the rows...

...selected the plants...

...then placed plants on rows and spaced evenly apart...
We also planted some seeds, including spaghetti squash. It is good to note that when planting the seeds, you should place them further or closer apart based on the size that the plant will eventually grow to be. Dad told me to plant several of the spaghetti squash seeds in each spot, knowing that some of them may not even grow. The spaghetti squash needs a little more room than some of the other plants, because it tends to have huge vines that grow everywhere. The tomato plants will eventually need the wire cages around them to help facilitate the growth.
Here is my sister and Dad, checking out the growth of the plants after we had planted and watered them last week. Apparently the beans were already taking  off! The front right section of green foliage is a leftover strawberry patch from last year.

This is the last beautiful strawberry from the bunch...so long friend!

On to the next planting project...
My wonderful friend found this cute set of pots and chalkboard signs for a small kitchen garden of herbs and flowers. I have been talking about doing my own set of plants for awhile now, and she thought of me when she saw these...aren't they cute! I can't wait to put them behind our kitchen sink! I am going to my parent's house today to get some extra soil and seeds for the pots. I may also cheat a little, and buy some mature plants from Home Depot so I can enjoy them right away. I'll be sure to post the final product!

I am excited to see the fresh veggies that come from my Dad's garden! I will be sure to do our weekly produce "shopping" at their house during the summer! They always have an abundance of zucchinis and tomatoes.

Any fun plans for the weekend, friends? We are planning on doing two hikes this Memorial Day weekend. Remember when we went to Daley Ranch with our friends? Husby and I want to revisit it...do we enjoy torture? Haha...we may go easy this time, because our second hike will be on Monday, in the Anza Borrego Desert. We are going with the same group of friends and celebrating a birthday!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!
xoxo, Meg
